We promised each other we would spend at least seven minutes each day and have gone through two books of prompts.<\/p>\n<p>Now we&#8217;re creating our own prompts. We&#8217;ll be posting samples of our prompts each week. We hope you might try them and post them to either Kelly&#8217;s or my blog.<\/p>\n<p>The rules are simple:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Read the prompt<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Set the timer for 7 minutes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Start writing!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t think about it too much; just do it. Write a poem, paragraph, or story. If the prompt moves you, follow it.\u00a0If it sparks something else, go with it!<\/strong>\u00a0Our <strong><em>7-Minute Poetry Challenge<\/em><\/strong> is not about writing great poetry; or writing what is expected; it&#8217;s not even about writing anything good. It&#8217;s about one thing, <strong>writing<\/strong> <em><strong>IT<\/strong><\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>Challenge #1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ready for School!?<\/p>\n<p>On the first day of school what things do you bring? A backpack? Pen? Paper? Maybe you\u2019ll wear a new pair of jeans or sneakers.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it: Not only will it be your first day of school, it will be that \u201cthings\u201d first day of school, too.<\/p>\n<p>How do you think those \u201cthings\u201d feel about going to school for the first time? Write a \u201cFirst Day of School\u201d poem from the point of view of one of those things.<\/p>\n<p>Note: It can be the first day of anything.
