Find a poem that you\u2019d like to\nmake better and do the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) Can you replace weak words with\nmore visual words? Words like \u201cthat\u201d or \u201cwas\u201d or \u201cis\u201d can usually be replaced\nwith something stronger. Try to make every word count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) Listen to the sounds of each\nword. Is there a sound that\u2019s repeated in your poem? Can you replace words to\nadd more of that sound? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3) Read your poem very slowly. Pause\nat the end of each line. Is that the best word to end on? Play with your line lengths\nand with punctuation.
