Sax that is!\ufeff<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When we were about twelve, my friend Theresa and I closed ourselves in a music room at CSULB and played over and over and over and \u2026the opening phrases of the song&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0Ul7sYUGvbg\"><strong><em>Windy<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. We only stopped when the guy in the next room knocked.&nbsp;<em>Turned out, he too played a sax. We only wished we did . . .<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Said to emote a sound reminiscent of \u201cthe echo of an echo\u201d . . .&nbsp; a resonance \u201csituated at the edge of silence,\u201d the saxophone was invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s (patented in 1846.)&nbsp;<em>Sax only received a 15-year patent for the sax (and immediately others began copying his design). Sax\u2019s sax however was the first.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.squarespace-cdn.com\/content\/v1\/5225e775e4b0419ba4d7f35f\/1572871480837-NZWWWTLWJ3RV5M4D90S6\/ke17ZwdGBToddI8pDm48kK-Z-Tmqfmzf-cXUIwvBg7BZw-zPPgdn4jUwVcJE1ZvWQUxwkmyExglNqGp0IvTJZUJFbgE-7XRK3dMEBRBhUpzdMdQQVVUpiXVl6rYD3wsGY2IcK0hbWFp2wOANmgr4HkO8nZP7rIl25JHEkJ2o2Ng\/Adolphe+Sax.jpg?format=300w\" alt=\"Adolphe Sax.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In honor of Sax\u2019s birthday, November 6, 1814, let\u2019s write a saxophone poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listen to a Saxophone play. This 2017 post highlights&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.laweekly.com\/the-20-greatest-saxophonists-of-all-time\/\">\u201cThe 20 Greatest Saxophonists of All Times\u201d&nbsp;<\/a>with clippings of each playing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let your mind wander as you listen. Where does the music take you? How does it make you feel? What does it make you feel?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or, look at the saxophone itself, it\u2019s shape. And ask yourself, if a saxophone were an animal, which animal would it be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Draw on these saxophone images and feelings to write a Saxophonic poem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Set your mind on \u201cCool\u201d<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Set the timer for 7 minutes.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Start writing!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Don\u2019t think about it too much; just do it.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kellybennett.com\/blog\/\">Kelly Bennett&nbsp;<\/a>and I began this 7-Minute Poetry Challenge over 1200 days ago.
